Tobin Bronze


Tobin Bronze won the W.S.Cox Plate in both 1966 and 1967 and the Caulfield Cup in 1967.

In the 1966 W.S.Cox Plate, Tobin Bronze won at odds of 9/10f beating Winfreux and Light Fingers.

In the 1967 Caulfield Cup, Tobin Bronze started 5-1 favourite and was set to shoulder nine stone ten pounds (61.5 k). Tobin Bronze took the lead turning into the straight and held on by a neck from the fast finishing Red Handed. Garcon was third.

The next month he was 1/6 favourite to retain his W.S.Cox Plate crown which he did comfortably, winning from Terrific and Craftsman. He received a tremendous ovation in the winner`s enclosure.

Tobin Bronze then went overseas to America.

A horse with a liver chestnut coat and white blaze, Tobin Bronze was trained by Grahame Heagney and ridden by J Johnson.
