Claret Beret Dies After Routine Breeze at Palm Meadows

GI Apple Blossom heroine Claret Beret (Not This Time) died Friday from a possible cardiac event after returning from a morning work at Palm Meadows, according to her trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.. The Not This Time mare completed the four-furlong breeze (:49.55) normally and returned to the barn, where she apparently suffered a medical incident

Version of SAFE Act Passes Out of U.S. House Committee

Early Friday morning, the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee passed a surface transportation reauthorization bill that includes a bipartisan ban on transporting horses for slaughter, according to Chris Heyde, who runs the governmental affairs firm Blue Marble Strategy, and who has long worked on the ban, and Patrick Cummings of the National Thoroughbred Alliance.

NYRA To Offer Purse Increases On Overnight Races When Belmont Opens

22 May 2026

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will significantly increase purses on overnight races during the fall meet at the new Belmont Park, which will open for live racing Sept. 18, the track said via a Thursday press release. NYRA has increased purses in the open allowance category by 15 percent from $100,000 to $115,000.
