The 2009 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup was brilliantly won by five year old Presvis. Presvis is by sire Sakhee out of Never So Bold.

Trained in Newmarket by Luca Cumani, Presvis beat 2007 winner Viva Pataca, ridden by Darren Beadman, with Thumbs Up, ridden by Christophe Soumillon, in third.

This was Presvis’s first Group One victory but followed his exciting second in the Dubai Duty Free in Dubai in March 2009.

On a turf track reclassified as yielding, Ryan Moore settled Presvis in last place as Viva Macau led with the 2007 winner Viva Pataca staying in midfield. Viva Macau was still in front with 300 metres left in the straight, and Presvis still last, but Moore stayed close to the rail and then launched Presvis on a blistering run up the inner rail to pass Viva Pataca and win going away by a length at the post.

Chinchon was fourth and the field included 2008 winner Archipenko, Packing Winner, old favourite Bullish Cash and Niconero.

It was breathtaking to see his blistering speed in the last furlong. A successful last to first run like this is one of the most exciting things in international racing but the timing is the key.
