Hong Kong Sprint 2006

Absolute Champion won the 2006 Hong Kong Sprint over 6 furlongs on the turf.
The race had been contested over 5 furlongs until 2006.

Absolute Champion, at 5-1, broke the track record he had set in October 2006 by 3/10 second, recording a time of 1:07.80.

Jockey Brett Prebble had Absolute Champion in midfield off a fast pace in the early stages set by 40-1 Natural Blitz and 30-1 Desert Lord. Absolute Champion was cruising throughout and burst clear to win by an impressive 4 1/4 lengths from former dual HK Sprint winner, 6-1 Silent Witness and 38-1 Benbaun.

Absolute Champion continued the run of victories by Australian bred horses in the race - they have won every Sprint since the race began in 1999.
