Hong Kong QEII Cup 2011

Hong Kong QEII Cup 2011
The 2011 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (Group One), sponsored by Audemars Piguet, was won at Sha Tin in exciting style by fast finishing favourite Ambitious Dragon.

Ambitious Dragon, who had previously won the Mercedes-Benz sponsored Hong Kong Derby, won by three quarters of a length from the Tony Cruz trained California Memory.

"Hyperion" (Robert Bishop), interviewed at Sha Tin, said "This was a great QEII Cup. To have two such fast finishers in Ambitious Dragon and California Memory in the field was sure to produce a blistering finish to the race and we were not disappointed."

Ambitious Dragon was trained by Tony Millard and ridden by Douglas Whyte for owner Johnson Lam Pui Hung.

His sire is Pins and his dam is Golden Gamble.

John Moore's Mighty High was third and Irian fourth with old hero Viva Pataca, running for the sixth time in a race he has won twice, in fifth place.

Hyperion added "Im looking forward to seeing California Memory in Singapore take on Presvis. They have similar running styles and we are in for another excellent race. I expect Ambitious Dragon will go for the Hong Kong Cup in December".

Ambitious Dragon provided champion jockey Whyte with his third QEII Cup win after victories on London News and Oriental Express in 1997 and 1998.
