Hong Kong QEII Cup 2006 pre-race article

"Hyperion" is in Hong Kong for sunday`s QE II Cup sponsored by Audemars Piguet. The quality field includes 7 Group One winners from 4 Continents, including the 58/1 winner from 2004, River Dancer. This year Hong Kong Derby winner Viva Pataca, owned by Stanley Ho, is expected to start favourite but the son of Marju has a difficult draw in stall 12 and the local money will ensure that the gelding starts at a short price. Ouija Board, who won the 2005 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase, reappears in Hong Kong after her disappointment last time out when she could only finish fourth in the Dubai Sheema Classic last month. On sunday she is well drawn in stall 8. The two most intriguing runners appear to be Irridescence and Norse Dancer. Irridescence, trained by Mike de Kock, was scratched just before the Dubai Duty Free after spooking in the paddock at Nad Al Sheba but her team was exuding confidence at yesterday`s Barrier Draw. Norse Dancer may be the value in the race - David Elsworth`s son of Halling has finished between second to fourth in no less than 10 Group One races and "Hyperion" suggests he should be excellent EW value on the day. Ouija Board is the best horse in the race but she may again underperform this season over the shorter trip and we prefer the value offered by Norse Dancer and Irridescence. Of the other Hong Kong horses, we prefer Bullish Luck over Bowmans Crossing". (Robert Bishop) 20 April 2006
