The 2007 Dubai World Cup was deservedly won by impressive Invasor, who became the third Breeders Cup Classic winner to triumph in the DWC following previous wins by Cigar and Pleasantly Perfect.

The race was billed as a match between Invasor and Discreet Cat although the seven runner field (the smallest field in the DWC’s 12-year-history) included BC Classic third Premium Tap, Forty Licks, Kandidate, Vermilion, and Bullish Luck.

Discreet Cat defeated Invasor in the 2006 UAE Derby, although this time Invasor was sent off as the slight 5-4 favourite with Discreet Cat at 11-8.

Discreet Cat started slowly and never recovered to put in a challenge. Premium Tap led the field most of the way. At the 5/16 pole Invasor drew alongside Premium Tap and the pair battled head to head for a furlong until Invasor pulled away to win by 1 3/4 lengths in a time of 1:59.97, which was 0.47 seconds slower than Dubai Millennium's record time set in 2000. Bullish Luck was eight lengths back in third.

Invasor was owned by Sheikh Hamdan and ridden by Fernando Jara.
